Welcome to Term 6. We can't believe it is the final term in Year 1. What an exciting year it has been! We have lots more fun coming up before the summer holidays. Our topic for this term is 'The Ugly Bug Ball' and we will be learning all about minibeasts.

Welcome to the Summer Term. We hope you have had a wonderful Easter.
This term our topic we be 'Oh we do like to be beside the seaside'. We will be comparing the seaside now and in the past.
On Friday 26th May we will be going on a school trip to Fleetwood museum to take part in their seaside extravaganza and also visiting the RNLI.
Our next Together Tuesday will be on Tuesday 16th May.
On Friday 31st March we celebrated Kindness Day at Norbreck. We spent time discussing what kindness is, how it makes us feel and how we can be kind to others. In 1H we also designed our own kindness bunting. We were on the lookout for children being exceptionally kind to others and it was very easy to spot. 1H are an incredibly kind class.
Welcome to Term 4. This term our topic is 'George's Marvellous Medicine' and we will be reading this book and completing lots of drama, English and art activities. In maths, we will be adding and subtracting, looking at weight and capacity, doubling, multiplication and division, position and direction. In English, we will be reading traditional tales and focusing on 'The Three Little Pigs' and 'The Billy Goats Gruff'. We will be writing sentences using full stops and capital letters, using time connectives in our writing, exploring and using a variety of reading strategies and developing spelling strategies through phonics. We also have Premier Sport dance sessions every Monday afternoon and outdoor games with Blackpool FC every Tuesday afternoon.

We have had the most exciting 'India' themed week full of art, dance, drama, music and fun! Year 1 leaned all about Diwali. We had a drumming workshop, a visit from the Hindu society, acted out the Rama and Sita story, took part in dance sessions, made menhdi patterns on hands, created a beautiful lotus flower, made Rangoli patterns and much more! Welcome to Term 3.
Our topic for this term is 'Toys R Us' and we have been comparing old and new toys. On Friday 13th January we had a special visitor to launch this topic; Mr Jolly the Toymaker. In English we have been reading David Melling books and began with 'Hugless Douglas'. In Maths we have learned about money, measures, numbers, place value, addition and subtraction.
Spellings and homework will be sent home on Fridays and spelling will be tested the following week. Please make sure Homework Books are brought into school every Monday.
School closes on Thursday 22nd December at 2pm. We would like to thank you all for your support this term. Have a very Merry Christmas and we will see you all on Monday 9th January 2017.
A class of superstars!!
1H and 2K performed the most wonderful nativity on Wednesday. We are all so proud of you. In every rehearsal you gave your very best and sang beautifully, acted, danced and spoke your lines in loud, clear voices. Well done everyone. Thank you to all parents for being such a wonderful audience and for your support.
We hope you have had a lovely half term holiday. Our new topic is 'Celebrations and Sparkles' and is all about different celebrations around the world and the celebration of Christmas. In Maths this term, we will be subtracting, halving, doubling and learning about 2D and 3D shape. In English we will be reading 'Beegu' and retelling the story, inventing aliens, asking questions, describing a setting and many more exciting activities. Also, we will be reading and responding to different poems. Science lessons will focus on the seasons and materials and their properties. We will also start practising our nativity during this term, 'Little Blue Star', and look forward to performing it for you on Wednesday 14th December at 2pm.
Anti-Bullying Week at Norbreck
The Week beginning 14th November was anti-bullying and friendship week at Norbreck. Year 1 looked at the difference between being rude, being mean and bullying. We focused on how to be kind and made our own friendship potion. We also spent time looking at the importance of words and how to use your power for good. We explored different feelings through the character of Beegu and how to help and be a kind friend.

Class 1H are all settling in so well to Year 1 and have been working hard. We are very proud of them.
We have been reading lots of texts including The Gruffalo and Oliver's Fruit Salad. In maths, we have been learning about place value, counting in ones and twos (forwards and backwards) and learning our number pairs to 10 and 20. Why not have a look at the weblinks at the bottom of this page and play some of the games?
Our topic is 'All about me' and we have been creating family trees, painting self-portraits and learning about our body in Science. We took part in an exciting 'senses' morning where we experienced different smells and tastes, went on a sound walk and explored sight and touch. Have a look at the photos below.
We are designing and making a fruit salad and hope parents can come in and taste these on Friday 21st October at 2.50pm.
Also, it is parents evening on Wednesday 26th October and Thursday 27th October.
Important information for Year 1
Reading with book changes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Home-School Diaries will be sent home on Fridays in the first term (until Christmas) with Together Tasks which will be a variety of Maths, English and Topic tasks.
There will be weekly spellings sent home after the children have settled in.
1H’s PE days are Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure that your PE kit is in school and named.
Star of the Day
This is Dudley the dog. He is 1H's star of the day and someone will be chosen every day to take him home. Children will be chosen for all sorts of reasons such as being a kind friend, working hard, trying their best or listening carefully. I wonder who will take Dudley home today..........
