Welcome to Term 6. We can't believe it is the final term in Year 1. What an exciting year it has been! We have lots more fun coming up before the summer holidays. Our topic for this term is 'The Ugly Bug Ball' and we will be learning all about minibeasts.

Welcome to the Summer Term. We hope you have had a wonderful Easter.
This term our topic we be 'Oh we do like to be beside the seaside'. We will be comparing the seaside now and in the past.
On Friday 26th May we will be going on a school trip to Fleetwood museum to take part in their seaside extravaganza and also visiting the RNLI.
Our next Together Tuesday will be on Tuesday 16th May.

Welcome to Term 4. This term our topic is 'George's Marvellous Medicine' and we will be reading this book and completing lots of drama, English and art activities. In maths, we will be adding and subtracting, looking at weight and capacity, doubling, multiplication and division, position and direction. In English, we will be reading traditional tales and focusing on 'The Three Little Pigs' and 'The Billy Goats Gruff'. We will be writing sentences using full stops and capital letters, using time connectives in our writing, exploring and using a variety of reading strategies and developing spelling strategies through phonics. We also have Premier Sport dance sessions every Monday afternoon and outdoor games with Blackpool FC every Tuesday afternoon.

Happy New Year! We hope you have all had a magical Christmas.
Welcome to Term 3.
Our topic for this term is 'Toys R Us' and we will be comparing old and new toys. On Friday 13th January we have a special visitor to launch this topic; Mr Jolly the Toymaker. In English we will be reading David Melling books and begin with 'Hugless Douglas'. We will be writing descriptions and using conjunctions to extend our sentences. In Maths we will be learning about money, measures, numbers, place value, addition and subtraction.
Spellings and homework will be sent home on Fridays and spelling will be tested the following week. Please make sure Homework Books are brought into school every Monday.
We hope you have had a lovely half term holiday. Our new topic is 'Celebrations and Sparkles' and is all about different celebrations around the world and the celebration of Christmas. In Maths this term, we will be subtracting, halving, doubling and learning about 2D and 3D shape. In English we will be reading 'Beegu' and retelling the story, inventing aliens, asking questions, describing a setting and many more exciting activities. Also, we will be reading and responding to different poems. Science lessons will focus on the seasons and materials and their properties. We will also start practising our nativity during this term, 'Little Blue Star', and look forward to performing it for you on Thursday 15th December at 2pm.

Anti-Bullying Week at Norbreck
The Week beginning 14th November was anti-bullying and friendship week at Norbreck. Year 1 looked at the difference between being rude, being mean and bullying. We focused on how to be kind and made our own friendship potion. We also spent time looking at the importance of words and how to use your power for good. We explored different feelings through the character of Beegu and how to help and be a kind friend.
We hope you have had a fun filled summer break and are feeling refreshed ready for an exciting term!
Our topic for this term is ‘It’s Good To Be Me’ where we will be learning all about ourselves and our families. We will be looking at and creating a family tree, drawing self-portraits and learning about the human body in Science.
If you have visited anywhere in the UK this summer and have a postcard please bring it in for our map.
Important information for Year 1
Reading with book changes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Home-School Diaries will be sent home on Fridays in the first term (until Christmas) with Together Tasks which will be a variety of Maths, English and Topic tasks.
There will be weekly spellings sent home after the children have settled in.
1JH’s PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure that your PE kit is in school and named.
Edward the Bear
Edward is our 'star of the day' teddy. Over the year all children are celebrated for their work and achievements and as part of their reward they will take home Edward for a sleep-over. We hope that you are looking forward to him coming to stay with you!
