School Council & Democracy Links

Each November, we participate in UK Parliament week and hold our own democratic elections for the important role of School Councillor. Children in every class are able to stand for election and must deliver a speech as to why they would be the best for the role. Children vote anonymously and place their votes in a ballot box. These votes are then counted and verified by the class teacher. The announcement of who has achieved the position for their class is revealed in a special assembly.
School Councillors meet every half-term to discuss ways to raise money for charity and ways to improve school life.
Most recently, the School Councillors developed and designed our school values!
Every year, a local magistrate visits our Year 6 children to explain their role in court. They carry out a mock trial linked to online-bullying, with the children taking on the key roles and acting out the process.
They discuss everyone's views and feed back to the group before reaching their verdict!
School Council organise the Reindeer Dash for charity- Dec 2024
The School Council were approached by two children in Year 6 to ask if everyone in school would be able to raise money for Brian House Children's Hospice by carrying out either a Reindeer Rave or an Elf Run! The children listened to the reasons and information presented to them and made the decision to organise a 'Reindeer Dash' during the final week of term during our party days! They decided that all children could donate £2 to receive some antlers and go on a mile run around the school playground whilst listening/ dancing/ running/ skipping/ hopping to music! Well done to Ashton and Violet and also to the school councillors for organising such a fantastic and worthwhile event. #pupilvoice #kindnessmatters #
