Welcome to Class 5S!
Children will be continuing to use the Accelerated Reading scheme. Once the children have chosen and read a book, they will complete an online quiz to check their understanding of the book. Children are given daily reading time in class and are expected to be reading at home for a minimum of 20 minutes daily.
Times tables are a crucial part of maths in Year 5 and therefore we expect the children to have a solid knowledge of all times tables facts. To help with this, all children have an account on Times Table Rockstars - a fun website which questions children on their fact recall.
Homework will be issued weekly. At times this homework might need to be completed electronically by the children; if anyone has trouble accessing the internet at home, let us know and we can make arrangements for children to use school laptops during the day. Homework club runs on Thursday lunchtime with Mrs Watts in 5RW, providing that it is not wet.
P.E. is taught on Fridays through the school year. Please ensure that your child has a full P.E. kit in school at all times (this includes pumps for gymnastics).
Swimming lessons will be on Tuesday mornings and children will be notified by letter when their lessons will begin. Children who passed the swimming certificate in Year 4 will not have lessons this year but will have the opportunity to compete in the swimming gala at the end of the year.
Please ensure reading books and journals are brought into school every day. Homework in books is given out on Tuesdays and needs to be returned by the following Monday.
