Governance

Norbreck Primary Academy converted to academy status on 1 September 2012. On 1 September 2026, the Academy became part of Synergy Education Trust, joining a family of schools committed to providing high-quality education and opportunities for all pupils.

The Trust’s governance structure is made up of members, trustees and local governing boards. Within this structure there is a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience across the education landscape. The responsibilities of the Trust are governed by the Articles of Association and Schemes of Delegation, which outline the devolved responsibilities of the Trustees and Local Governing Board. The Local Governing Board (LGB) is a committee of the Trust Board and is established in accordance with the Trust's Articles of Association. The Board operates within the Terms of Reference set by the Trust Board, which outline its responsibilities and its relationship with the Trust.

The LGB plays a vital role in ensuring that the school continues to provide an outstanding education for all pupils. A key focus of the Board is to support the continuous improvement of educational standards by promoting high expectations and ensuring that every pupil is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Working closely with the Headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the school, governors help to shape the strategic direction of the school and provide both support and constructive challenge.

The responsibilities of the Local Governing Board include:

  • Ensuring that the school has a clear strategic vision that aligns with the wider aims and priorities of the Trust.
  • Receiving regular assurance regarding the quality, appropriateness and effectiveness of the curriculum.
  • Monitoring educational standards and performance to ensure positive outcomes for all pupils.
  • Working alongside senior leaders to identify areas for improvement and support the implementation of strategies that reflect the Trust's strategic objectives.
  • Maintaining oversight of staff and pupil wellbeing, including behaviour and safeguarding arrangements.
  • Ensuring that effective safeguarding systems and procedures are in place and operating effectively.
  • Strengthening relationships with parents, carers and the wider community served by the school.
  • Working in partnership with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and colleagues across the Trust to ensure that pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are fully supported and included in all aspects of school life.
  • Developing a strong and effective relationship with the Headteacher to provide appropriate support, encouragement and challenge.
  • Ensuring that the Trust's SEND policy is implemented effectively and adapted where necessary to meet the specific needs of the school.
