What will I need in school?

Please bring a water bottle to school each day. These will go home each night for cleaning and refilling.

PE kits come into school at the beginning of each term and go home at the end. They can be taken home at any point throughout the term for washing when needed.

As the weather gets colder, a school tracksuit would be useful during the autumn and winter months.

Collins reading books are to be returned every Monday.

Homework

Homework is consistent across all year groups and will be the same each week:

Reading:

Please encourage your child to read daily. A quiet, uninterrupted 20 minutes at least five times a week is valuable to support the progress your child will make.

This can be a mixture of reading fiction and non-fiction texts, comics, magazines, newspapers, rhymes and poetry or any other books that your child would enjoy reading.

Spellings:

At Norbreck we follow the Ready Steady Spell Scheme from Literacy Counts. Spellings are taught 5 days a week. On a Friday, the children will take home a spelling list, which contains all the spellings taught that week in school. The children will take part in a spelling test of these words the following Monday.

A Ready Steady Spell Handbook will be sent to all parents/carers in the first week, which explains how you can support your child with spellings at home.

Fast Facts Maths:

Each term we will concentrate on a different set of maths facts. The children will learn these in school but are required to practise at home regularly to build up their confidence and recall of number facts.

Term 1: To know all number bonds for 10 and 20

Term 2: To know multiplication and division facts for the 2 x table

Term 3: To know multiplication and division facts for the 10 x table

Term 4: To know multiplication and division facts for the 5 x table

Term 5: To know all addition and subtraction facts for multiples of 10 to 100

Term 6: To recall all doubles and halves of even numbers to 20
